exhaust mount and fuel tank strap

Post  ando227 on Mon Jun 08, 2009 12:50 am

these had turned to dust to so made a replacement exhaust mount and instead of a steel strap holding the fuel tank down i have fitted a ratchet strap.

well i guess the proof of the pudding will be in the eating... certainly all i can say is that the previous mot man didnt give a monkeys as there was no working tank strap at all...in fact to be honest it should never have got an mot for various other reasons that i have gradually unearthed as i have chased the tin worm round. i did complain to the garage that did it but maybe i should have gone straight to VOSA..
It is the strap that holds the tank down rather than supporting the weight so the webing should be more than up to the job
if i end up having to make a metal one then so be it.... i have a plan in mind if i need it.

isn't it strange though how MOT standards can vary?

I've just put the Hilux through an MOT, which it initially failed.... one of the things it failed on was a windscreen sticker being within 10mm of "zone A".

This had to be removed as part of the work carried out before the retest...... the stupid thing is, the sticker has been there for 6 years and it's never been an issue before, and even more stupid, it's the same tester that does it every year!!!!

Good luck with the MOT Ando, hope it all goes well!

in total agreement. its down to the testers discretion.so if they are having a bad day then you have less of a chance to pass it. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil
